I wanna be a kid again
Jun 6th, 2006 by Accidental Thinker
I want my daughter’s life. Really, I do. She has the best summer ever lined up for her entertainment. Last week was gymnastics camp. This week is Vacation Bible School. She loved the first day and is already singing the songs like crazy (I have to admit, they are kind of catchy), and afterward, her aunt took her to Disney. What’s not to love about that? Next week begins two weeks of theater camp, which will conclude with a theatrical production. Followed by a week of tennis camp and swimming. Then more gymnastics. Then a week of field trips at daycare before school starts again and life returns to normal.
In contrast, here’s what my summer looks like. Work. Work. Work. Work. Work. Hmmm, I think I see a pattern here.
Lucky kid. Where can I sign up to be 7 again? Just for a couple of months. Then I’ll revert to responsible adulthood, I promise.
I have been feeling the same way. I want the summer off! I want to go to the swim parks and various field trips.
It sounds like she has a great summer ahead. Lucky her. It should give her a few great memories of childhood when she gets to be the one to work, work, work.
Hey! Not so fast. I’m still reading your 10% from your last posts.
…and no wonder you’re working. Look what you have to pay for!
One of mine has already been to Youglife camp, and the other two go to softball camp next week.
But, your daughter has mine beat, hands down. What a great summer!
Back when it was time to sign the kids up for camps and activities, I was working and could not figure out how to transport them, so we passed. Now I’m unemployed, and these kids at home all day everyday are driving me NUTS!
Work. Work. Work. Work. Work. THAT’S catchy, too. Second verse Bills. Bills. Bills. Bills. Bills. …. aren’t you glad you are a grown-up now and don’t have to listen to ANYBODY. 🙂
I really must find out how many holidays kids in America get – but it sounds like a lot! Mine don’t break up for another six weeks and I’ve signed them up for 3 weeks of chaos, and after that I’m hoping to take things a tad slower ;o)
But I agree, it would be fun to have so much time to do as I pleased :o)
I agree. My summer looks a whole lot like yours!
I would take a deal like that.
A wise old man once told me, “There is nothing from here to the grave but work!” Althought lucky for me… I was 17 at the time and NOT 7! Oh the joy of childhood and its innocense! But like everything in life, you don’t REALLY appreciate it as much as you should, until AFTER it’s GONE! ~ jb///
I’m with you.. sounds like a fun filled summer.
