Pirates over princesses?
Jul 27th, 2007 by Accidental Thinker
What I want to know is, just when, exactly, did my daughter stop thinking princesses were cool? She and her friend are at gymnastics camp this week, and the theme is “Pirates and Princesses.” Today they were supposed to dress up as either a princess or a pirate. They both chose pirates. Definitely didn’t want to be princesses. No way. Had to be pirates.
“But, but, but… you both used to love all the princess-y things. Disney princesses ruled!” I spluttered.
“That was when we were younger, Mom.”
They are growing up, and it’s breaking my heart!
Aaaaarrrrgggghhhh! I always think it’s funny when kids say things like, “When I was younger.” I had a teenager say, “I remember back in the day…” I laughed and said, “What day? Yesterday?” I discovered that teenagers only do well at dishing out sarcasm, lol.
I much prefer a sea farer meself, matey!! Arrrrrrrrraugh. 😉
It happened to my daughters, too. I think part of it is “princess burnout” since they overdid it earlier. Part of it is realizing that princesses don’t do much but be pretty.
Awww, it’s so cute though. Funny you brought up priates. I’m going to have Jillian be a pirate for Halloween. I’m thinking she will oh so cute.
