You in the back row, I’m talking to YOU!

The other night, Maia and I were having a serious conversation about God, faith, and church, when she said the funniest thing about our minister. She said he screams. Well, he doesn’t exactly scream, but there was more than a nugget of truth in her observation, because he can be a pretty passionate speaker and has been known to get a little worked up. He even jokes about it. But unlike some of the televangelists I see on TV, I really believe he is speaking directly from his heart and deeply means every word.
Then she went on to insightfully add that she felt like he was talking right at her, like he wanted to make sure she was listening.
I know, Maia, I feel exactly the same way. All the time.
In fact, I’ll go so far as to say that I often feel our minister has the uncanny ability to read my mind, because the sermon is nearly always about exactly whatever topic I have been thinking about recently. Yes, it seems he really is talking directly to me, and he makes me want to listen up and change. All the time.

Sweetie, that is the Holy Spirit speaking directly to you through your minister!
I experience the SAME THING week after week after week at my church. I sure know without a shadow of a doubt that I am in the church where I supposed to be, hearing from God like this! It’s awesome!!
“For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”
Hebrews 4:12
Many Blessings! \o/
It’s even more spooky is when the special music AND the Bible study all relate back to the message…which are ALL talking about me!!
That’s the spirit of Him talking right to you through the minister. 🙂
…and are you like me? Sometimes I sit and listen and think, “I sure hope What’s-his-name is listening; this is for him.” Or “What’s-her-name should be here to hear this!”
Who made the minister’s mouth and gave him the words?
Screams, as in “Howard Dean”? Hope he’s a Southern Baptist, then. I’d hate to find out you’re Catholic. It just doesn’t seem appropriate. ;o)
Kidding. I know you’re not Catholic.
I’ve always said if a pastor doesn’t make us squirm in our seats a bit, then he’s not doing his job.
Kids notice everything. My teens do impersonations of their youth leaders and fellow kids in the youth group. We have fun with it as a family. Your pastor sounds like he’s doing a good job, if his messages are hitting home in your real life.
If it seems as if he’s speaking to you directly, then he’s a good speaker.
That’s not so unusual. After all, you are part of the same body.
I’m glad that you find him inspiring. We all need that.
